Can a New Pregnancy Occur During Pregnancy?

The body of an expectant mother contains factors that prevent pregnancy from occurring again. For example, after pregnancy occurs, the woman does not continue to ovulate. At the same time, a mucous plug forms in the cervix, which prevents sperm from entering the uterus. Due to such physical reasons, it is almost impossible for a new pregnancy to occur during pregnancy.

During a normal pregnancy, a new pregnancy does not occur until the pregnancy is over. The reason for this is that the hormonal values experienced with the pregnancy stop the ovulation functions.

It is impossible for pregnancy to occur when the body is not ovulating. However, it is reported in the medical literature that such pregnancies are encountered, although very rarely.

There is no such thing as definite

However, some cases, although very rare, have led one to think that a second possible pregnancy may occur while the mother is pregnant.

It has been observed that some women with two uteruses have a pregnancy in both uteruses. In women with two uteruses, under normal conditions, the second uterus usually does not function. However, in a very rare and interesting case, a second pregnancy occurs approximately a few months after the pregnancy has occurred. In medicine, this condition is called superfetation.

According to a news report published in Time magazine in 2009, a 31-year-old American woman named Julia Grovenburg was pregnant twice, 2 weeks apart, and gave birth to her first child on December 24, and her second child exactly 17 days after birth, on January 10, 2010. Experts predict that this situation can occur if the body continues to ovulate after pregnancy occurs.

Is there a difference between superfetation and twin pregnancy?

In a normal twin pregnancy, both babies start developing at the same time. However, in the case of superfetation, a second pregnancy occurs with a new ovulation a week or two after the first baby is born. There is a gap of about 1 month between these babies.

What is the probability of a new pregnancy occurring during pregnancy?

This situation is a one in a million chance. It has been seen in some cases where pregnancy occurs again during the pregnancy period. However, such a situation has not been encountered in Turkey to date. In addition, some pregnancies may develop internally and externally, causing a mistake. However, this is not a common situation encountered in normal pregnancies.

How does superphoton occur?

  • Experts offer two different explanations for how Superposition can occur.

  • The first is that, although very rarely, two eggs develop simultaneously in the same month and one egg develops later,

  • The second is the fertilization of another egg during the ovulation period, which occurs after pregnancy has been achieved.

2 different babies from 2 different men

Another situation that is rarely encountered worldwide is when a pregnant mother gives birth to two babies at the same time from two different men. In this case, the twins born have different fathers. This situation is called heteropaternal superfecundation.

How does heteropaternal superfecundation occur?

Heteropaternal superfecundation occurs when a woman ovulates twice during her ovulation period and has sexual intercourse with two different men during this period, resulting in 2 different sperm fertilizing these 2 different eggs. This situation, which is rarely encountered in humans, occurs frequently in animals such as cats and dogs.
