What are the Gynecological Diseases that Occur in Summer?

There is a significant increase in women's diseases when summer comes. Excessive heat, excessive sweating, and poor hygiene conditions cause gynecological problems to increase. It has been determined by research that gynecological problems increase in all women, especially pregnant women, when summer comes. Serious health problems can occur in pregnant women due to fluid and salt loss due to excessive heat. This condition gives various symptoms from low blood pressure to fatigue, weakness and cramps. If excessive thirst reaches a more advanced stage, pregnant women may even experience premature birth. Women should be more careful during the summer period when they are affected to this extent.

What are the factors that cause diseases in women in summer?

Increase in vaginal infections: The increase in such problems occurs more due to insufficient hygienic measures than in the summer months. It is seen that women are negatively affected by this in the environment of swimming in the pool or sea in the summer. This risk is higher if cleanliness and hygiene are not given importance especially in pools. Apart from this, it is necessary to dry well after leaving the pool or shower and not to stay in a wet swimsuit. Since a wet swimsuit absorbs a lot of heat from the vagina, harmful bacteria settle instead of the beneficial bacteria in the environment and cause infections. In this case, the possibility of transmitting infections to others in the pool or sea increases. What women need to do in this regard is to take a shower immediately before entering the water and after leaving. This method is a good precaution to be taken to protect against infections. If a shower is not taken daily, the PH value of the vagina is negatively affected and the formation of infections increases. For this reason, showers should be done with shower gels or soaps with a neutral PH value. If a woman has a vaginal infection, discharge is observed. When the discharge is due to fungal infections, a discharge like cheese crumbs or milk curd; In infections caused by microbes, there may be a foul-smelling, yellowish or greenish discharge. In this case, it is recommended to see a doctor immediately. If these are ignored, more serious problems may occur.

Wearing synthetic and tight clothing: Synthetic underwear that disrupts ventilation in extreme heat in the summer months should not be worn. Preferring cotton underwear is a factor that provides ventilation. Apart from this, using pads every day is extremely dangerous. Just because of this habit, fungus can form in women. Especially tight pants should not be preferred in clothing. There is no need to use products such as deodorant, spray, powder in the genital area. These are factors that disrupt the PH value of the genital area. For this reason, diseases occur more easily.

Tampon use: Using tampons during menstruation is an extremely healthy practice for women. These are also recommended by doctors. The reason for this is that tampons prevent blood from accumulating in the vagina and completely absorb the blood. However, tampons need to be changed frequently. Especially during periods of heavy bleeding, tampons should be changed every 3 hours. There is also an important point to consider when using tampons. The tampon should not be left inside for a long time. If this period is long, serious diseases may occur. Women can swim in the sea with tampons when necessary. However, the tampon should be changed immediately after leaving the sea.

Menopause: Women who have entered menopause in the summer experience more distress during this period. Hot flashes that occur in women due to this period increase with the heat. Along with this, palpitations, sweating, and mood swings are experienced. These effects are factors that will affect the quality of life. If these increase during the summer, a doctor should definitely be consulted. If women find it dangerous to use medication, support can be obtained from herbal products. In this regard, plants such as black cohosh, ginseng, flaxseed, and soy can be used.

Pregnancy: Pregnant women need to be more careful when the summer heat arrives. Pregnant women should consume at least 3 liters of fluid during this period. Balancing fluid intake will prevent hemorrhoids, constipation and urinary tract infections. Sun exposure should not be avoided during the hours when the sun's rays are at their strongest. In order to prevent brown spots from forming on the face and abdomen due to the sun, care should be taken to protect from the sun during these days. To ensure this, creams with a high protection factor can be used, and hats and sunglasses can be worn. Care should be taken to ensure that clothing is light-colored and cotton. Another problem that can affect women during this period is urinary tract infections caused by wet swimsuits. To prevent cystitis, one should not stay wet. This problem can occur in women because the tube that carries urine is shorter. If left untreated, it can spread to the kidneys and cause more serious problems. Therefore, one should be more careful.

What are the issues that women should pay attention to in the summer months?

  • You should not stay in a wet swimsuit after swimming in the sea or pool.

  • You should not enter the pool during crowded hours unless you are sure about the hygiene of the water.

  • A shower should be taken every day.

  • Shower gels with a neutral pH value should be used during the shower.

  • Underwear should be chosen from cotton and changed every day. Synthetic underwear should be avoided.

  • Tight trousers should not be worn.

  • Washing the inside of the vagina should be avoided and vaginal douche products should not be used.

  • Since pad use creates an airless environment, it should not be used on a daily basis.

  • If there are complaints such as foul-smelling vaginal discharge, burning, or itching, a doctor should be consulted.

When women meet these conditions, they will not be affected by the discomforts that will occur in the summer months. Especially for pregnant women, swimming in the sea and pool is extremely important to reduce tension. It is especially recommended for back and waist pain caused by pregnancy.
