Protein and Its Importance in IVF Treatment

What are the benefits of a protein-rich diet before IVF treatment?

Before IVF treatment, experts all over the world strongly recommend that expectant mothers avoid carbohydrate-containing foods and eat more protein-based foods. As a result of research conducted over many years, experts have determined that the expectant mother's eating habits before and after the transfer have a significant impact on the success of the transfer, and accordingly, they personally want expectant mothers to cut out carbohydrates and eat more protein-based foods starting from before the treatment.

For expectant mothers who consume a protein-rich diet, both pregnancy and birth are much easier, and the postpartum recovery process is also faster.

According to the results of the studies conducted in the best research centers in the world; unsuccessful results were obtained in IVF treatments in expectant mothers who had a carbohydrate-oriented diet. It has been suggested that those who were fed carbohydrates prepared a foreign and negative environment for the eggs before pregnancy or treatment for pregnancy. On the other hand, in expectant mothers who were fed protein, pregnancy, birth and postpartum period passed more easily.

What are the negative effects of carbohydrate consumption?

Excess glucose formation resulting from carbohydrate consumption does not create a healthy environment for eggs and embryos. For this reason, it is good for couples considering pregnancy or patients who want to undergo in vitro fertilization treatment to reduce their carbohydrate consumption a few months in advance in order to achieve positive results.

Various experiments were conducted to determine this scientific data. For example, the reason for unsuccessful IVF attempts despite the fact that the patients were not overweight or diabetic was investigated. Accordingly, in the studies conducted on 120 women aged 36-37, these women were put on a 3-day diet. Patients with compatible general body indexes were divided into 2 separate groups. Group 1 applied a 60% to 70% carbohydrate-based diet. Group 2 was divided into two. Group 1 was given a low amount of protein. Group 2 was given high amounts of protein foods. The results were very meaningful. Since the protein team in Group 1 received a low amount of protein, it gave the same results as the other carbohydrate-fed group. However, since the protein team 2 received a high amount of protein, the pregnancy process and live birth success rate in IVF treatment could increase to 25%, 60%, 80% with an increasing schedule. This was a great success. Therefore, all experts in our country recommend applying a carbohydrate-reducing and protein-increasing diet before pregnancy and IVF.

What should a protein diet be like?

This diet should not be the protein diets that we know today for weight loss, but a protein diet for nutrition itself. It is possible to learn these diets from expert dietitians or in vitro fertilization specialists. Because pregnancy is a period when healthy and balanced nutrition is required. For this, it is also beneficial to get the necessary help from dietitians.
