1) How many days does the period last?
It is considered normal for menstrual bleeding to come regularly for 2 to 7 days. Menstrual bleeding that lasts only 1 day is considered as scanty and the reason for it lasting 1 day should definitely be investigated in detail.
The amount of menstrual bleeding varies from person to person. It is also quite difficult to determine. Using more than 5 pads during menstrual periods is considered excessive. If using 1 or 2 pads during the day is sufficient, then it is also considered normal. The most important detail in this regard is how many days the menstrual bleeding lasts.
Menstrual bleeding should occur approximately every 21 or 35 days. There is no rule that every woman will menstruate between 28 and 30 days. For this reason, menstruation between 21 and 35 days is also considered normal.
2) What should be the normal menstrual period?
It is a bit difficult to measure the amount of menstrual bleeding and evaluate whether it is normal or not. The reason for this is that the frequency of changing pads varies from woman to woman. Some women are bothered by the blood in the pad and change pads constantly even if the bleeding is small, while some women change pads less frequently even if the bleeding is heavy in order to be more economical. However, more than 3 or 5 pads during the day is generally considered heavy bleeding. As we have mentioned before, if the patient changes pads even when there is 1-2 drops of bleeding and states that she changes 4-5 pads a day, this is not too much, it is normal. If only 1 pad is enough during the day, this can be considered normal. The important thing is that the menstrual period lasts at least 2 days.
3) How frequent should menstruation be? How often should menstruation occur?
There should be a minimum of 21 days and a maximum of 35 days between the dates when menstruation begins. Not every woman needs to menstruate exactly every 28 or 30 days. Periods between 21 and 35 days are considered normal. The point to be noted at this point is that when calculating this period, the period from the first day of one period to the first day of the next period is calculated. It is not considered correct to count the days of purity between periods.
4) How should the menstrual cycle be during adolescence?
It is completely normal to experience irregular menstrual periods during the first period of menstruation. After the first menstrual bleeding, no intervention is needed for 2 to 3 years. Because menstrual bleeding becomes regular on its own. For this reason, there is no need to panic due to irregular menstrual periods in girls who first start menstruating. However, if heavy bleeding occurs, the reason for the heavy bleeding should be investigated in detail and treatment should be started according to the cause. If the bleeding lasts more than 7 days and anemia develops due to the heavy bleeding, then it is considered that the menstrual bleeding is heavy.
