Failed IVF and After

Continuing the family institution is the best way to strengthen ties and add happiness to your happiness with a child. Everyone wants to experience the joy of being a mother and father, but sometimes, uncontrollable reasons prevent you from this pleasure, no matter how much you want it. In vitro fertilization treatment actually comes to us as an alternative in this case. In vitro fertilization is the fertilization of reproductive cells taken from the spouses in a laboratory environment and the placement of the fertilized egg back into the uterus of the mother-to-be. It is also very normal for couples who apply this method to have a baby to despair in the face of unsuccessful treatment. However, it should be known that in order to start this treatment, it is necessary to be psychologically ready. Although it is presented as an alternative, it is necessary to inform the patient in advance that the success rate is low. Failing at the first attempt does not mean failing every time, but spouses should still know that the success rate in in vitro fertilization will not exceed 60%.

Even couples who have no problems may not be able to get pregnant when they want to. In this case, it is very likely that the first attempt at in vitro fertilization will be unsuccessful.

Relationship Between Age and Success in IVF Treatment

The important thing in this treatment is to use time wisely. The advancement of the couple's age can reduce the already low success rate even further. A woman over 40 may have to have multiple IVF attempts. Even if pregnancy is achieved, the probability of miscarriage will be very high. Failures experienced at advanced ages may arise from the fact that the ovaries are not as healthy as they used to be. Problems other than age and ovarian quality may be problems that can be resolved with other attempts with new technology. The first reason for unsuccessful IVF is genetically defective embryos, and secondly, problems in the uterus. Previous abortions and diseases such as myoma may make it difficult for the embryo to hold on to the uterus. The main factor is actually age, which should be reviewed once again. Whether or not the male sperm is at a normal level is also a factor.

The rate of unsuccessful attempts decreases with each attempt, but if there is a disease that has been overlooked and delayed and then recognized and treated, the rate may increase again accordingly. The attempts require financial and psychological strength. Under normal circumstances, couples may be successful on the 2nd or 3rd attempt. Therefore, one should never despair on the first try. Depending on the financial and psychological situation, couples can undergo IVF treatment for up to 10 attempts. However, the success rate decreases with each attempt and the cost increases as the number of tests performed increases. Although an exact number of attempts is not given, experts do not recommend more than 6 attempts. After each attempt, the failure that occurs on the first attempt should be thoroughly investigated.

After the First Failed IVF Attempt

If IVF treatment is to be tried again, it should not be interrupted for many years; because as the patient ages, genetic deterioration occurs in the egg. If a second attempt is to be made after the first unsuccessful IVF attempt, the time between should be at least 1 month. At the end of one month, the second IVF attempt can be started. In fact, couples need to get through this process, which requires more mental preparation than physical preparation, with the least damage and stress.

After an unsuccessful IVF, the reasons should be investigated with some tests that are outside the routine. Couples can also receive psychological support during this process because this treatment is a stressful treatment. Especially if failures have occurred several times, couples are very disappointed. Therefore, IVF treatment can actually be started with psychological support. Couples should be told about low success rates, how much chance of success they have, how long it will take to try again, and how much they will be affected financially or emotionally. Since the mothers-to-be will be the ones most affected by this process, spouses should be very patient and understanding towards the mother. The treatment will also be positively affected if the mother-to-be receives psychological support. If the treatment that failed is the first attempt, it would be unnecessary to worry too much, but if there are failures in other attempts, various, different tests should definitely be performed.

Reasons for Failure in Women

First of all, the problems in the woman should be examined and it should be checked whether there is adhesion in the uterus. There may be some abnormalities in the uterus that prevent the baby from attaching. In order to solve this, we inject fluid into the uterus with ultrasound and check the condition of the uterus. Again, hysterosalpingography is one of the methods that can be used in this regard, but it is not preferred much today because it is a slightly painful method. Hysteroscopy, on the other hand, is the placement of a small camera into the uterus. This small camera provides us with detailed examination. Another reason for failure is blockage in the tubes. In these types, fluid accumulation causes the fluids to flow into the uterus and prevent the baby from attaching in the uterus. If such a problem occurs in early pregnancy, this increases the risk of miscarriage.

Repeated Failed IVF

In order to call the treatment a recurrent IVF failure; there must be no pregnancy for 3 applications and no pregnancy must be achieved despite the best 10 embryos given. There are of course some rules that can be followed and that should be taken into consideration in order to be successful in IVF, but again, although not definite, it may increase the pregnancy rate.

Couples who want to have children should first have chromosome analysis and immunological studies. If there is a problem in any of the couples, then the embryos obtained as a result of IVF treatment should undergo some tests before transfer. One of the most important elements in obtaining eggs is which path to follow to increase embryo quality. Of course, the selected sperm is at least as important as the healthy egg. The IMSI method used today can be used in sperm selection. All of these will contribute to pregnancy for the 2nd attempt.

Tests and treatments to be performed before starting IVF treatment will seriously affect your ability to have a baby in a positive way. As long as the appropriate conditions are not prepared for the development of the embryos, the quality of the embryo does not change anything. Although IVF treatment is a partially successful treatment in proportion to age, the most important issue to focus on is the psychological approaches of the spouses.

The Effect of Stress on Treatment

Stress is an obstacle to everything. Couples need to approach each other with tolerance. Otherwise, any problems that may occur again can have a very negative impact on marital relations.

At first, mothers and fathers-to-be have difficulty accepting failure psychologically, and later on, on the contrary, they start to think that they will not be able to have children again, and the relationship between the couples deteriorates. In order to avoid any behavior that may cause such a situation, it is necessary to get help from specialist doctors. In fact, it is best to perceive IVF treatment as a dual treatment and to accept psychological treatment as an indispensable part of this situation. If there is alcohol, cigarettes or stimulant use, it should be stopped immediately because the explanation most people who smoke today give as stress, and you should never give in to this.

It is beneficial to try as many IVF attempts as you can while you are still young, without prolonging the financial and spiritual recovery process. Due to the nature of the work, the rates may decrease in later ages and you may regret the 2nd or 3rd IVF that you did not try. Instead of giving up treatment in despair, support your spouses and contact a doctor you trust and believe in after the short break and continue your treatment.
