Causes of Infertility in Men

In about half of the families that cannot have children, the problem stems from the man.

The causes of male infertility are divided into two;

  • The channels responsible for carrying sperm out are blocked,

  • Factors affecting the number or quality and production of sperm.

The reason for these problems originating from men is often inexplicable. If the reason for the problems cannot be found, some drug treatments are applied. However, it cannot be said that the drug treatments applied are very successful. In such cases, microinjection applications that come into play are quite effective and useful in providing success in treatment. With these applications, pregnancy rates in high-level male infertility have increased considerably.

Sperm production disorders

Infertility seen in men, disorders related to sperm production and maturation are the most common causes of infertility. Disorders related to sperm production, apart from sperm count, can also develop due to weakness or abnormality in sperm movements, which can cause the woman's egg not to be fertilized. For pregnancy, the number of male sperm must be 20 million and the sperm in the number must have at least 30% motile sperm. Otherwise, the treatments applied will not be successful. In other words, it is impossible to get pregnant naturally.

Inflammatory diseases

Some types of bacteria and germs cause inflammation of the ovaries. In case of inflammation of the ovaries, infertility problems may occur.

Structural disorders

It is the condition of the tubes that allow sperm to come out of the testicles, which are defined as the sperm production center, being blocked. In this case, it causes infertility. The problem can be congenital or it can develop due to an infectious disease that occurs later. Previous surgeries applied to that area can also cause infertility.

Unexplained infertility

Infertility that cannot be named with the help of medicine, that is, infertility whose cause cannot be explained. Infection-related disorders that the research conducted has not been able to provide any results, are the cracking of the egg and movement disorders that develop in the tubes. Psychological factors also play a role in the rates of inexplicable infertility. Pregnancies that develop with the elimination of stress -related problems have been detected. In couples who have infertility treatment, when the treatment is paused for rest, the rate of spontaneous pregnancy is quite high.

Diagnosis of infertility

In families that apply to a doctor due to infertility, some tests should be performed to explain the cause of infertility. The first of the tests performed is sperm analysis in men and hysterosalpingography in women to see if the uterus and fallopian tubes are blocked. Another test is hormonal tests that can prevent pregnancy in women. Hormonal tests are performed on the third day of menstruation.

Treatment method

One of the most common problems in male infertility is varicose veins (varicocele) that occur in the ovarian veins. Varicose veins can be treated with surgical methods. However, even after surgery, couples cannot have children on their own. In this case, the most effective method is in vitro fertilization. Couples have a higher chance of having a baby as a result of in vitro fertilization.

Insemination or in vitro fertilization?

Insemination is preferred in cases where sperm count is low or at moderate levels. In cases where sperm count is very low, in vitro fertilization should be applied.
