6th Week of Pregnancy

Changes in the baby in the 6th week of pregnancy

In the 6th week of your pregnancy, all of your baby's systems have formed, the heart has started to beat, and therefore the living structure we call an embryo has turned into a living being that actively shows vital signs. After this stage, instead of new tissue and organ formation, the initiation of internal body work to develop the established tissues and organs is in question.

Changes in the expectant mother in the 6th week of pregnancy

Of course, while all these events are happening, there are also major changes in your hormonal balance. Since hormones have a large area of influence in the body, this sudden fluctuation will cause significant changes in you. These changes will first manifest themselves as sudden psychological changes. As it is known, most pregnant women are much more fragile and sensitive than they normally are at the beginning of this process. The effects of hormonal fluctuations bring about visible changes as well as psychological changes. For example, if you experience intense nausea and dizziness, especially in the morning hours during these weeks of your pregnancy, you should know that these conditions are also caused by fluctuations in your hormones. The reason for all these changes is actually to give you a warning, thus allowing you to get used to the fact of pregnancy. For example, you can think of the nausea you experience when you wake up in the morning as an alarm set to remind you that you are pregnant. In this way, it will be possible for you to continue your physical activity more carefully without forgetting that you are pregnant. At this point, the fact that morning sickness occurs especially in the first weeks of your pregnancy, when it is most sensitive, is evidence that you need to protect yourself. Also, during this week, tenderness in your breasts and frequent urination are obvious effects of pregnancy on your body.

How should the expectant mother's nutrition regime be during pregnancy?

During the sixth week, the placenta, which will function to nourish your baby who has started to live with all of its organs, begins to function. After this stage, the nutrients you consume will reach your baby through the placenta. For this reason, foods that are harmful to a human body under normal conditions should not be consumed during pregnancy. Especially smoking during pregnancy damages the baby's lungs at this stage and increases the risk of your baby developing asthma in the later stages. In addition, your baby's brain and spinal cord formation are completed during this week. If you supplement your body with folic acid, which especially affects brain development positively, from the moment you realize you are pregnant, it is possible to minimize the risk of the developmental disorder called neural tube defect and to positively encourage your baby's mental development.
